Cutting an aluminum steerer
#1
Hi,
I wish to lower my stem and cut the remaining length on my 1 1/8 aluminum threadless steerer tube. I have heard I can use a hacksaw, but how would I ensure a straight cut? Do I need oil or grease on it when I cut? Thanks!

I've never used oil or grease to cut with a hacksaw. I don't think it's necessary because your cutting motion is not that fast. Just cut nice and evenly and don't push down into the cut, just let the blade do its work.

You'll have to be very careful to cut it straight. I've always used the Park SG-7, which makes it really easy to get a straight cut.
