How does a Kick Shift hub work with a coaster brake?

I'm curious to how a rider uses this kind of hub. If you turn the pedal backwards backwards to operate the coaster brake, how do you change gears? Is it a more subtle backwards motion that triggers the gear change?

Any input from riders who have one or have used one would be appreciated.

It is a more subtle backwards motion that triggers the shift.

My experience was on an Schwinn tandem in the '70's. When starting out, the two gears were high and way too high. Once you were moving, the two gears became way too low, and low.
