interpreting serial numbers
#1
Can anyone help me to interpret the serial serial numbers on my Kona Cindercone (first pic) and Gary Fisher Tasajara (second pic). I've spent quite a bit of time online without discovering much. Every article seems to advise you to look it up on one of the online lookup sites but then fails to link said sites. In case the pix don't appear in the order that I attached them, the one with the white made in Taiwan sticker is the Cindercone

Your best option is to reference the manufacturer's website. Some have a serial number look-up page; but even if they do not, I would simply contact them directly with the same information you provided here.
You obvoiusly know the make and model of the bikes so are you just trying to determine the years they were made or model year of the bikes (frame manufacture year could be a year earlier than the model year shown in a catalog)? You might also be able to determine the time period by date code info (if any) shown on components if they are original to the bike.
