I am looking for some thoughts, recommendations, and feedback on buying a Giant Talon.
Which model? 1,2,3, or 4.
I've had Giant Reign for 12 years, which I'm upgrading. It's been exceptional and happy to stay with Giant.
Bit counter productive I guess however I'm looking at the model first then budget.
I've done research with conflicting results.
I only ride off-road twice a week, around 60k, with a combination of hills, ups and downs on single and firebreak tracks.
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

the Giant Reign is a full suspension bike right? I think it'll look more like a down grade going to a Giant Talon even if it is the top spec one, but don't get me wrong, components nowadays really are a notch above what we used to have 10 to 20 years ago when it comes to mountain biking. I do get why you want to get a hardtail now though since you do a lot of XC style riding as well.
Maybe consider these options:
Giant fathom (hardtail but all mountain/enduro ready geometry and specs) *you can get the best of both worlds as this is still a hard tail so pedaling a lot of kms or miles would feel better than your full-sun
Giant XTC (also a hardtail but sportier meaning you can get faster but will sacrifice more downhill and trail comfort due to it going much faster than any other mountain bike in their range up or downhill)
Giant Reign 2024 (if something isn't broken why fix it? the new Giant Reign is an awesome machine that will get you to places like your old one used to have)
if you're still keen on going for the Talon, I'd suggest going for Talon 2, it has great mid range components that are very capable

I've gone with the Talon, fortunately got a great deal as well.
Now...going from a 26" dual to a 29" hardtail...a new challenge
Lets see some pics of that bad boy

*chants* show them, show them, show them!
Given your experience and weekly mileage, Talon 1 or 2 would be best. Talon 4: This is the most basic setup, best for beginner-level trail riding and lighter off-road use.

if you plan to transfer the compatible parts of your Reign to Talon, I suggest get at least Talon 3.

Yea. I'm really happy with it. I've now done some serious mtb trails and it's been great for my needs.
I will update in the future but perfect for now.
I've used Giant for 20+ years and really content with their reliability 😁
