Touring on a folding bike
#1
hello. The other day my eye caught a couple with Dahon folding bikes. Apparently they were on a long tour judging by the full panniers on the sides of the carrier. So my question is- are folding bicycles any good for longer distance touring and travelling?

I don't see why they wouldn't be, but folding bikes tend to be more expensive and perhaps a bit heavier, and unless you have a specific need for one, such as putting it in a vehicle, I don't see any other advantage.
If I knew how to ride a bike properly, I'd do it every time.

that's how I also feel. Folding bikes can be handy when travelling with RV. More compact, can still add some panniers if you like. Not sure about multiple day rides and touring in general.

My niece has a permanently damaged foot and rides a folding trike. I don't know why she bought a folding one because she doesn't transport it anywhere. Somehow, the bolt came loose and the trike unfolded. She asked me to fix it. I did it but I also injured my finger when it got caught in the clamp that keeps it together. So I tend to have a bias against folding bikes.
