Block spacer
#1
My new 10 speed Shimano 105 block came with a skinny aluminum spacer, which was intended to fit behind the block.  Does this always need to be fitted or is it for special circumstances?  I also have new 10 speed specific wheels and the chain does clear the spokes without the spacer.  The new chain is not smooth under pressure, could taking out the spacer be a solution?   Thanks.

If the lock ring on the cassette tightens down well without the spacer, I don't think you "need" it. But 10 spd cassettes were designed to be used with a 1 mm spacer behind them when installed on 9/10 compatible freehubs. You should probably use it unless there is a reason not to.

I doubt any of this will affect the chain not being "smooth". Can you describe more what you mean by that?

I see that set up uses a Super Narrow 10-speed HG chains? Anyway in case you haven't seen it here is the Shimano Video for that set up. I think? Hope it works.

I cliked on the link and it brought another video up. However if you click the arrow point left I think it will take you the to Shimano company video? Sorry but that is the best I can do.
