Hi there,
I have a Hardtail MTB with a SRAM X-7 shifter, SRAM SX-4 derailer and a Shimano HG-50 cassette.
The derailer is pretty gay so im looking at getting a new one.
Will a Shimano derailer work with my shifter and cassette?
Thanks
No, since the actual cable pull of a SRAM shifter is 1:1, and a Shimano derailleur is 2:1...
Better stick with a SRAM if you don't want to change shifters...

you are so right, many folks think that SRAM always fits Shimano and vice versa much to their dismay. There are articles about showing compatibility but I am not sure where I saw it.
Cycle the streets of Bristol!
You need a SRAM derailleur to work with your present shifter.
SRAM offers MRX and TRX shifters that work with Shimano (and compatible) rear derailleurs. SRAM front shifters work with Shimano FDs, and visa versa. Only the rears are a problem.
You should probably replace your chain and cassette at the same time, and shifters are inexpensive, so.....
