Used Bike Advice: Alton..?
#1
I came across this post for an Alton Granite 24D T6061 mountain bike. Typical for Facebook Marketplace posts, the images don't show the components very well. But what little I see, along with the price, intrigues me. Still, I kinda like to know what I'm buying (I'm funny like that), and I can find absolutely nothing online that concerns "Alton" bikes, let alone this specific model. Even ChatGPT has no information on this brand! So I turn to the bike-gnostics within this forum for help and advice.

Would you buy this bike?
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Korean brand of bikes that has been around for a couple of decades. I'm not sure if there is an established dealer in the US or what level of quality bike they are.
Unless someone here specifically knows about that bike/brand, I would consult an mtb specific forum site to see if others have been using them.

Just a warning: I see that your link is from facebook marketplace. Beware that scammers are infiltrating that site more and more everyday. Not saying that the seller isn't legit, but take measures to view the bike in a public place (outside a cop shop is best), and request serial number with photo of it so you can request a trace to ensure it isn't stolen. I am seeing bikes for sale from "fake" accounts where other's bikes are being "sold". Unfortunately, most scammers are giving Nigeria a bad name in this department.

Make sure the bike is in a safe and proper working order and take an adequate test ride on it if possible.
Take care,
Jesper
