How many bikes do you have now?

I was on a ride the other day, 5 of us, and at coffee, the subject came up, and I was asked how many bikes do I have?

I answered 6
Pete said he had 7
Curt answered 8
Jeff had 4

But the 'winner' of the day was Johnny with 10!

So between 5 riders we had 35 bikes! 🫨

Amazingly, we could all justify why we kept them:

* Mountain biking only
* Road only
* Gravel mainly
* Sentimental...
* Uumm yea, I plan to get rid or sell some ( just getting round to it)
and the best one
*Just cos...

So....how many bikes do you have?
Why are you keeping them?
Are you going to keep them all?

I have one and keeping it a long time..:-)

To be honest, I used to own a road bike, mountain bike and such. Then, my fatbike chose me..

Because I can use it in various settings ( gravel, mountain, road, long-distance bikepacking and short-commutes), I kept it and gave away rest..

And, I definitely have sentimental attachment to my fatbike, MotaaCycle..

I try to keep it simple, bikes come and bikes go with me. I just love building up and upgrading nice platforms to work with. but have my favorite keepers that I have a tough time parting with.

1990 Specialized Epic carbon 105 I have never ridden this bike yet
1994 Univega alpina 5.1 (modified) (steel)
1997 Bontrager Privateer (modified)(steel) I have never ridden this bike yet (purchased new)
1989 Miyata Skyrunner (modified) ( bonded alloy)
1995 Mongoose IBOC Comp (bonded alloy) purchased new
1990 Mongoose Amplifier (full sus. alloy) (custom built) purchased new
2011 GT Tachyon (alloy) (custom built) purchased new
1994 Cannondale r600 (alloy)
1987 Specialized Stumpjumper (steel) (modified) (boxed original components) I have never ridden this bike yet
1989 Giant Cadex Carbon 105
numerous others waiting to be built for sale. These years of bikes are my cup of choice, the 2011 Tachyon is an awesome build and probably
my least favorite and as late my most used. I am now 64yrs old and know I need to slim the herd. never been so glad to be at a point in my life
where I will never ever need to purchase a new bike nor care to, prices are off the charts and not many taylored to suit my style or will ever come close to the coolness and style of what I have already. New bikes are a tough chew for me when back in my day you would obtain a pretty top notch ride in the $600 to $1000 range.
However, I can and do appreciate how advanced many types of bicycles have become and the extreme level of off roading has become, totally amazed at the balls these bicyclists have diving down canyon walls etc..etc. but it all comes at a high price. My Mongoose amp cost a grand for the frame and fork alone and my gemini tandem listed for $2500 in 1990, these were my most expensive purchases back then, and well worth it, tons of fun!
