New: Vitesse Signal Giveaway's Winner Announced

Rear cog set
#1
When I have my bike on the stand and I pedal the wheel up to speed and let it coast, [stop pedaling] the rear cog set wobbles. My question is it the hub or cog set that is bent. The bike is a BRS cruiser 5speed. Having trouble setting the rear derailleur.

Thanks Dan

My guess is that if it's a freewheel, it's likely the hub axle that is bent. You could try overhauling the rear wheel and then remove all of the cones and nuts from the axle. Roll the axle on a flat surface and you should see it wobble. If it rolls smoothly then you'll know it is not bent.

Here's a video that may help with your rear derailleur adjustment: http://bikeride.com/adjust-rear-derailleur/

Thanks for the reply Alex, I checked the axle and it is ok. Could the part of the hub that the free wheel threads on to be bent. May be a bad case of chain suck or some thing. My LBS has a rim an hub assembly for about 30.00 so I may go that route. Thanks Dan

My guess is that it is the freewheel itself that is wobbling, not the wheel. I'd try that first. Install hand-tight and test the new one on the stand so you can return it if it isn't the issue.

I took the wheel in to my LBS and they confirmed a bent hub. They said it looked like a bad case of chain suck. Got a new wheel on order. Thanks for all the reply's. Thanks again Dan
