Nexus hubs [Solved]
#1
Hi.
I don't get why would you choose nexus hub over the classic derailleur shifters?
Isn't it much pain when the hub brakes? Or am I just too used to the derailleurs and shifting .. #justasking

I guess we are just too used to dérailleurs. In principle they are more flexible, more efficient and offer a wider gear range with more steps, and they are lighter.
However, a chain is rarely super clean, and so efficiency is lower than theoretically possible. The gear range is good enough on a Rohloff, and a 2x11 derailleur equipped bike has more like 18 (maybe 16) distinct usable gears. The weight difference remains, but I could easily lower the system weight by a stone or so by eating less.

For a commuter I would probably look at internal gear hubs (a Rohloff is nice) with a Gates belt - provided they come with proper handlebars (road bike). No, I don't have one, I have mostly bikes with road bike components (a road bike, a randonneur, a cyclocross, a frankenbike with road bars..)

This sums it up yeah. Thanks for the info, those Gates belts are something completely new to me #tank. Now I'm redirecting myself to youtube for some videos about the belt drives haha.
