Hayes Mechanical Front Disc alignment

I have Hayes MX3 Mechanical Disc Brakes front & back, and had to remove front wheel and when I reinstalled the front wheel I am having difficulty in adjusting the disc with equal spacing between the outside & inside brake pads. Each time I tighten the quick release I have the outer pad dragging as the wheel is spun through on rotation. Is there a trick to setting & keeping an even space between the pads & disc while tightening the quick release?

Make sure your axle is firmly mounted in your fork dropouts, and then tighten the <a href="http://bikeride.com/remove-install-wheels/">quick release lever</a>. Once this is done you may have to adjust the pad position. Is there a side-to-side adjustment screw on your brake calipers?
