Derailluer Hanger Alignment Tool
#1
I cannot express enough about the importance of this tool when having to deal with multi speed bicycles. I have been in the bicycle biz in one fashion or the other for over 30 years. Have sold many new bicycles and 90% have been out of wack fresh from the box. With used bikes crossing your path you should just expect it to be bad. And never string new cables without checking the hanger first, ever!
Picked up this "fluff and flip" bike at Goodwill for $25.57us. Here are the pics of the checking of the alignment of the hanger, so bad it cannot even really gauge yet.
Trust me yes, this is extreme but very common. Out is out and will not tune near as nice if at all across all the gears if this is not done first. Parts will wear faster, drivetrain will not shift smooth and bike will not runout as quiet either.

Oh yeah this tool is a blessing to bikeshops everywhere, I had 12 units come in all with a bent hanger from the freight as it wasnt packed properly. We were able to save 11 units due to this tool

What a God send! 🙌

The only general purpose mechanic's tool that can work occasionally on a bike is a crescent wrench. Everything else is specific to your bicycle or your component. I have two tool boxes full of special purpose tools that no longer work for anything because the components have changed.

Yup, that is why I stay in my lane, but when I get a new job that causes me to buy a tool, all or some of it will be in the bill somewhere even if means labor
