Remove chain from front derailleur
#1
I got a Shimano tourney front derailleur on my bike. Need to replace it. How to get the chain out?. I hope, I do not have to break a link on the chain. I see a rivet in one end of the metal. I do not see screw or  bolt tightening the two ends.

If the derailleur doesn't have a bolt holding the cage together (i.e. a rivet) then you would either have to break the chain or destroy the derailleur. If the new derailleur's cage can be opened up, destroying the old one is an option. But of course, if not, you'll have to break the chain regardless.

Note that breaking a chain is not hard or time consuming. They are made to come apart. There's a few little tricks to doing it right. But if you look up a how to, it shouldn't be too intimidating.
