Recommendations for new disk brakes
#1
Hi,

I have a hybrid bike that I'm replacing my brakes on, currently I have shimano alfine hydraulic brakes.
I'd be happy staying with shimano (as I have about a litre of genuine mineral oil).
I'd looked at the slx m675, tried the deore M596 (which were good but hit a fault so they've been sent back).
Just looking for ideas, a lot of the brakes out there are for mountain biking and obviously the price range is quite vast. I use my bike for commuting on roads, no off road stuff on it.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.
thanks

if you are not getting mud on the rims, why would you want the extra cost, complexity and weight of disk brakes?

Shimano SLX hydraulic disc brakes are fantastic, simple to bleed and very reliable. Avoid Avid brakes at all costs! They are nothing but trouble in my experience

Hi, thats for responses.

Good to know about avid as they were potentials.
In terms of the slx, are specific rotors required? Looking at CRC it mentions rotors:
"SH-65685-65587 for RT67 IceTech aluminum core CenterLock rotors; or SH-65682-65584 for RT86 6-bolt rotors and compatible with other SH- rotors as well"
or will they be generally be ok with all?
thanks in advance

Any rotor will work as a general rule, your current rotors on your bike will work fine. Some great deals on CRC at the moment!

Good stuff, thanks again.
Yeah, I find them to be pretty good, usually have the best prices and usually next day delivery, cant really fault them

Avid can be great if good maintenance is done... Yeah they are a bit of trouble adjusting, but they will stop my 200lbs weight going downhill on a mountain bike for sure!!!
