Derailleur Hanger
#1
After pulling off my rear derailleur I noticed that my hanger has significant play against the frame. I tried tightening the bolt but it won't tighten anymore, when I loosen it it still only tightens to the same point.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Some aluminum hangers don't just use a one piece bolt, but come in two pieces for that single bolt area...

for example

check out this photo of a two piece bolt.. similar to some crankset ring bolts

(updated)

If you noticed you can put a flat head screw driver of the right size to use it to hold down that bolt while tightening the other bolt with the correct hex key size.

This might be your problem since you can't tighten it enough without having the other piece held down with a flat head screw driver.

If it's not a two part bolt like haykong talks about, pull out the bolt that holds it and inspect the threads. If the threads on the bolt are damaged, you should be able to get a new one. If the threads on the frame are damaged, you've got a bigger problem unfortunately.

I think I was just tired and not looking at it properly. Tightened up no problems. Not sure what I was doing wrong the other night. Cheers for the help b
