Cassette Identification
#1
Hello - I have a very basic question - how do I identify the size / configuration (i.e. 12-25, 11-23, etc.) of the cassette currently on my bike? Is this stamped somewhere on the sprockets, or do I just measure it. It's a Shimano 105 variety. Thanks.

Shimano puts that information on their web site. All you need to know is the model of the cassette, but if I'm not mistaken, the 105 and the Ultegra series share the same cassette. You can go to Shimano's web site to double check.

Count the teeth on the largest and smallest sprockets, and count the number of sprockets.

Cassettes are usually designated by:
1) the number of teeth on the small sprocket - ie 12
2) the number of teeth on the large sprocket - ie 27
3) the number of sprockets - ie 9

So you would have a 9 speed 12-27 cassette.
It's important though to say the manufacture as the spacing can be different between manufacturers cassettes.
ie Shimano is different to Campagnolo etc.

Didn't realise it was just a matter of counting the teeth. Simple.

Many thanks!
