Outer limit screw (front derailleur) has its limit?
#1
Hi all,

I am a newbie in bicycle repair/maintenance. I tried to adjust the front derailleur on my Trek 5.9SL. It is a Dura Ace and I am not sure what the model is. After many trials and errors to correct shifting I still found the chain rubbed a bit on the derailleur at highest gears. According to this video ( http://vimeo.com/6059378) I just need to turn the outer limit screw counterclockwise, and I did. However, I still hear a little bit of scratching noise even the screw was already as high as possible. I wonder what did I do wrong? Please help.

First of all, nice bike you got there. Now personally I would think that it might've gotten tweaked off a little bit by hitting it on something, so I would try and tweak it back to the right to get it to stop rubbing. However there might be a smoother way to do it than that.

Maybe check the cable tension in the lowest gear? Might be too loose. Thinking as I type like I always do haha.

Try and move the derailleur by hand to see if it will clear the chain better.
If it will, then as Nameused says, check cable tension or physical alignment.
Ride hard or ride home alone!
