How Do I Re-Mount Stem Shifter?
#1
Hey Gang,

I have an older Huffy 10spd bike that was recently given to me. I removed & re-installed the gear shift levers (stem mounted) to adjust the loose harness but can't figure out what is supposed to keep the entire lever housing from rotating when I try to adjust the gears.

I imagine that the assembly needs to stay locked in place so that only the cable is pulled when I adjust but am obviously missing something very basic. Can anybody help?

The assembly includes on each side: the lever, two plastic washers for either side of the lever base, a metal bracket on the inside with a cut out for a male tab on an outer metal bracket, a plastic wingnut on the outside for tightening the whole assembly, and a non-flat washer going between the wingnut and the outer metal bracket.

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you look on the backside of that there should be a place where there is a screw with a nut on it. Tightening the screw will pinch the assembly together. I have attached a picture which "normal" stem mounts have.
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!
