What size are the Fender mount holes?

I know, it's a lame question, but what size are the holes in the frame & forks for baskets, fender struts etc.. threaded to (typically) on cruisers, comfort & mountain bikes?

Typically, all the small mounting holes on bikes (rack, water bottle, etc.) are M5 x 0.8 mm. (5mm metric bolt). Occasionally you see some bigger holes, mostly on cheaper bikes with stamped out sheet metal dropouts though.

Yep, on the bikes in question it's a bigger fastner than the water bottle uses.

My Schwinn World Tourist (made by Giant) has M6 x 1.0 threads.

Thank you, I found that a brake lever fastner fit & it was also 6mm x 1.0, very stout.
