Presta valve tool?
#1
HI everyone. I'm a very new and not so mechanical rider so have patience please. When I go to add air I put on the presta valve adapter and inflate to desired psi but when I back off on the adapter the inner valve part comes out with it and I lose "all" the air. My question is how do I tighten that inner valve part? Is there a special tool or can I just use a small wrench on the flat part in between the threads. I can't seem to finger tighten it enough... Thanks a bunch

Maybe this will help you out, do not only watch the video but read the comment area below it sometimes there is really good information there too, http://bikeride.com/presta-valve/
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

Thanks Bill. I had already watched the video and read the comments but my issue wasn't addressed there.....

Maybe Alex or someone who uses the presta valves can help. I really do not use them.

Does the problem happen with both tyres? If it's only one of them it could be that the valve has broken, there's a little spring in them that should push the valve out and seal it before you tighten the little knurled nut to fully seal it and these can break on rare occasions.

On some presta valves you can remove and replace the valve mechanism, see here: http://k0lee.com/2009/10/putting-tire-sealant-in-presta-valve-tubes/, but with others you can't, so you'll have to replace the whole inner tube if the valve has broken.

Thanks so much there Xerxes, those pictured are exactly like mine, they have that flat part which I assume I can use to tighten that valve mechanism with a needle nose plier... I'll give it a go tomorrow...
