Petroleum as cleaning material?
#1
Hi All,
I am new here and like to start from downstairs.
When I was a child cleaned my bike, the chain, some lagers with Petroleum.
I know the smell and danger of the fire, etc, But it work well.
Is it a good material to clean some parts with it?
Thanks,
doki

Where are you? Here in USA we call it gasoline. Ye its OK if thats what you got. However there are better more specific cleaners. Especially when dealing with painted parts.

Always follow manufacturers directions and have good ventilation.

GeorgeET Thanks, I am not in USA and my English not the best.
I clean my bike in Hungary and the most correct translation by dictionary is Kerosene. This is a good material solve the grease and such a dirt.
Wanted to know if anybody use it.
Thanks,
doki

Yes Kerosene is better than gasoline as a solvent. AND you can always use it in a storm lamp if electricity goes out. :-)) I have used it long time ago. Now I find the spray cans with tube nuzzles for more focused application an improvement, and easier to store. But kerosene is good, I have used it for engine cleaning applied with a brush.
