Trek 7200 convert suspension fork to chromoly

Can anyone recommend a source for the appropriate chromoly fork to replace the more expensive RST suspension fork. I recently replaced my 7300 with a suspension SunTour but $170 at the bike shop was too much. Looking at migrating three Trek 72/7300 to chromoly rigids. All are size 17.5 to fit riders at 5'8".

I have seen craiglist list a salvage [ frozen bb ] 7300 but it was a 19 inch Trek. Would that fork fit the next size down, my 17 1/2's ??

Any pointers appreciated. I do most of my own repair work. Fairly technical knowledge wise etc.

If wheel size is the same, the longer fork should work. You would either add spacers or cut down the fork. If you would like your bars a tad higher, add the spacers. If the fork is a threaded model, threads must be below the race to be able to tighten the headset.

My concern was the axle-to-crown might be longer on the larger frame. I lost my Trek dimension chart that showed those details. Thank you for responding. ed
