please help. very thin locknut for axle

1977 schwinn le tour ii. very thin 24t axle nut, cannot find anywhere. any ideas?? the bike axle cant handle a wider nut.

Some hubs come with narrow lock nuts. You may be able to buy a new hub, just for the nut.

Some new axles also come with narrow lock nuts. Maybe you only need to buy a new axle.

Another idea would be to get a wider nut, put it in a lathe, and reduce it to the appropriate width.

You could try doing it with a grinder, but it may be difficult to keep it even.
