Acceptable range of alignment?
#1
I am overhauling a trek MTB and I noticed that the alignment of the Crank arm and the cassette is causing the chain to bend toward the crank by more than 2mm (not the rear derailleur, the bike is upside down and I am looking straight back from the Crank to the cassette).
The bottom bracket cartridge and crank arm are fully tightened. Is this a normal accepted berth that I have never noticed? I have adjusted the front and rear to shift normally, but should the chain be curving like that?
Is this a definate offset between the freewheel and the front drivetrain?

What gear are you in when you check this? If you are on the big chain ring on the front and the big gear in the back it will be that way. Put the front gear on the small gear and the back gear on the big gear then look to see what it looks like. It should be straight back it should look straight when you look at it. If not then you will need to get a spacer for the back gears to move it a little. Hope this helps out. I know what I am trying to tell you but it may have came out all wrong lol. Maybe some one can tell you a little better than I have. If not take it to your bike shop and let them take a look at it. Good luck to you and your bike.
My dad always told me a Sledge a matic can fix any thing.
