I live in Zürich, but of course try to get into the mountains as much as possible.

Honestly, I'm new to climbing. Just starting to appreciate them as I upgraded my drivetrain. So far just did Uetliberg a couple times. Any tips on getting the most out of climbs?

Welcome!
Yes, remove the front derailleur and stay on the large ring!
No, sorry; that is how I abuse my body!
I only wish I was there, climbs get you into great condition, and you are cycling at high altitude also. The best way to get the most out of climbs is to do them again and again, and then again! I like to use higher gears at lower cadence, but there is the exact opposite way with lower gears and higher cadence. Find your "sweet spot" and keep a consistent cadence just like on the flats, whether or not you stay in the saddle. I also meditate while climbing and try to climb to the beat of a favorite song. Next thing you know you are at the top! I hate flats just because it is boring, climbs have different gradients within each climb, and usually enough turns to provide ever changing visual goals that help distract you from the actual climbing. Kind of a Zen thing!

Again, l wish I was there!

Take care,
Jesper
