Chain issue

Hi,

I have the following issue on my bike (see video):

When stopped at traffic lights I need various attempts at putting the pedal at the correct hight to set off. Is this to do with play in bottom bracket or another issue?

It's an old bike so do not want to spend much money on it. I can live with the play in the bottom bracket but the chain issue I describe is getting annoying.

I have just given it a wash and will re-apply chain oil when it's dry to see if it's just that.

Any ideas?

Ah right. Well that bottom bracket you posted in video 2 appears VERY broken. If the whole is shaking like that it's unsafe to ride. This is most likely the cause. In video one, where you're pedaling backwards, I imagine the hub is the fault of that since it is not straight. But, I am not sure of status of the rear cassette/freewheel. If this is fixed on fine and not sticking then it is all down do the front bottom bracket. Bottom brackets vary in price, especially in terms of quality and manufacture in my experience.

I don't see you having to spend more than maybe £30 maybe £40 on a BB for your bike. Of course if you're taking it to a shop they may charge labour.
