The Schwinn World Tourist of the early 1980’s was made by Giant in Taiwan; this was before Giant became a recognized bicycle manufacturer outside of Taiwan. Many were equipped with Shimano’s Front Freewheel System (FFS), and fortunately after removing the FFS system, there is a standard 68mm ISO/BSA threaded bottom bracket shell – the most common. The frame and fork are brazed steel, with nicely shaped lugs.

These bikes are great for Single Speed (SS) or Fixie conversion. They also make great touring and commuting bikes, with internal gear hubs (IGH) or derailleurs. When new, they were offered with 3 speed IGH, 5 speed derailleur and 10 speed derailleur versions. They originally came with ISO630 (27”) rims, fenders and rather long reach brakes. Tektro R539 or R737 brakes will work with ISO630 rims; Tektro R559 http://www.tektro.com/_english/01_products/01_prodetail.php?pid=66&sortname=Brake&sort=1&fid=2 brakes will work with ISO630 and are needed for ISO622 (700c) rims. There is plenty of room for 37-630 tires, and even wider 622 tires.

On this particular frame, the seat post measures 63cm c-t, 61cm c-c; the top tube is 57cm c-c, the chain stays are 45cm and the O.L.D is 125mm. The frame can be easily and safely cold set for wider or narrower rear hubs. The serial number is 3196519. The fork was stripped of paint before I got it.
