Food while bikepacking or touring
#1
Finding nutritious, healthy food on the road can be tough—especially in a foreign culture or remote villages.

I always stick to simple energy sources: anything with nuts, peanuts, or minimally processed sugars like jaggery, panela, or their byproducts.

Now, on a two-week-plus cycling trip through the southwestern coastal parts of India, I've found plenty of local, healthy snacks:

Coconut treats: Made with grated, roasted coconut and jaggery.

Roasted chickpeas: Combined with sugar or jaggery.

Kokum drink: A local, tangy hydration staple similar to tamarind. This is so salty and sweet, I am carrying a bottle of concentrate of this..

Cashews: Available in abundance.

Eat local, shop local! :-)

I'm pretty sure that is why I don't tour or backpack. I don't think I could eat that stuff. 😁
