Seat post clamp pops off the frame
#1
Hi,

Quick question as I've never had this problem before. When I tighten the clamp enough to keep the seat post in place the clamp pops up off the frame, releasing the seat post - not ideal you might agree.

Bike is brand new so stock size post/clamp. Clamp isn't quick release, seat post is an Ritchey alu one and frame is carbon.

I'm thinking its probably the clamp that's the weak link here? I know you can get different clamps depending on whether seat post is alu or carbon - but does a carbon bike frame add further restrictions?

Thanks.

I think we'd need pictures to understand what's going on here. Unless you have something unusual, I don't think they're be a different clamp depending on seat post material.

If it's new, I'd go back to the store. Either something is defective or installed wrong. No reason you would need to start buying parts.

Yep 10- 4 to what DaveM said, photos, and take it back to the shop. Sounds like a pricey bike and you should not be having issues.

Thanks anyway.
I thought that the bike shop was the likely option, I was trying to avoid it as the local bike shop isn't all that local! I won't post pics as there really isn't all that much to see. I've managed to fix it for the time being, a bit of thin cloth between the clamp and frame and it's gripped, been out all day and not budged.

take the cloth out and apply a product like Ritchey Torque Grease. If you do not want to go back to shop buy this, If you are in to the carbon game you have to know the rules and should own some anyway! It is designed to grip with lower torque that carbon parts require
