New Saddle Tips?
#1
Hey everyone!
Its time to replace that old saddle on my bike, and as I've been looking around for new ones, I'm not exactly sure what I want. Some of those saddles are expensive too so I want to make sure I get one that will fit me good.
Anybody have any tips on grabbing the right saddle?
Thanks.

I ride a Trek 3700. Mostly ride cross country. I'm a guy haha. I've looked at nashbar a little but I wasn't sure on quality compared to other brands.

Well, I wouldn't buy a saddle online if I hadn't ridden that one before. Check out your LBS, some offer to test a saddle for a week or two before buying (I think Specialized even has a dedicated saddle testing program, check out their homepage). IFF you are happy with the current saddle then you can just buy the replacement (same model etc.) online.

Performance bike has a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I've ridden saddles for a month or two and returned them because they weren't doing it for me.

Yeah thats what I was worried about with buying one online. I've heard about the test a saddle programs, just most saddles at the LBS are super expensive so I would want to try it there and then buy it online for a little cheaper. I never liked my current saddle it was just the stock one so I just kept it on there til it was worn out.

Maybe I'll go try them out, that sounds like what I would want to do.

Well, since the people at the LBS do take some time with you (well, they should) to advise you on the saddle to get and you use their stock to let you try out one you probably should get it there, too. I think it is not quite nice to get all the service and not leave some money there (as personnel cost is quite high). You might try to get a discount, or maybe ask for a discontinued model. Many shops will try to find a solution. I still buy many things at my LBS, even if I could sometimes get them cheaper online. The technical expertise of the owner (and his input) is of high value to me (plus he lets me borrow tools... awesome guy). So, when getting something that I'm not entirely sure about I go to him and get it there (except for racing material, he is more specialised on touring). I know, many people are on a budget, been there too, so I can (sort of) understand your POV.
