Is it feasible to combine Shimano 600 8-speed shifter with a 9-speed ultegra derailleur?

I do believe you can but not 100% sure. Maybe someone else can advise better?

the index is in the shifter, so if you want to use this combo you probably can as long as the cassette is 8 also, check compatibility issues here; http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/
you obviously won't get an 8 shifter to give you 9 gears.
