Adjusting new crankset
#1
Hi!
I have recently purchased a new crankset with its corresponding BB (Truvativ Stylo 3.3 Team, GXP BB).
Its supposed to be for 9 gear cassettes but i have a new 8 gear cassette with an 8 gear chain (SRAM PG 830 both).
Is it going to work alright everything, after installation or am i going to have configuration issues?
and by the way, if i change the crankset, normally i would need to re-adjust the front derailleur or both?
thank you
and keep up with the high quality page!

To be honest with you I can not say for sure if it will be ok. Being that you have all new parts and the chain and cassette are compatible there should not be a problem with the Truvativ. As far as adjustments you will definitely have to adjust the front and rear derailler. Speaking of that what kind of cassette was on your bike? Reason for asking is that there may be issues with your current rear derailler.
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

I don't think you'll have any problems, 8 speed chain on 9 speed rings won't be a problem. You may have to adjust the front mech high and low limiters a little if the chainline is slightly different to your previous chainset.

the front and rear dérailleur are both shimano acera, for 8 speed.
thanks for the fast reply!

Fitting a new chainset not the same as the previous one may result in alignment problems with your chainline and the relative position of your fd, you won't know until it's installed, in extreme cases, the fd may not have a long enough travel to work!!!

Not usually a problem at the quality end, but frequently encountered on cheap bikes when 2 or even 3 chainsets or even changing the bb axle may have to be tried before a working set up can be found.
This is where a good lbs comes into it's own.
