Biking during the pandemic
#1
Hey guys! Tough and strange times, this pandemic is certainly forcing us to take measures and adapt as much as we can ...

How does it affect your bike ride habits? I have read that in some European countries - Austria for instance - you are not allowed to bike for pleasure. Only to commute to work or shop. Crazy!

I commute to work on a bike almost every day and this habit has not been altered. My neighbour took a dusty old Schwinn from his garage and made it work. I was glad to see that because lately, I mean for at least a year, he's been all about driving and sitting in the office chair. This is a healty change for him Smile How does it affect my household? More family bike rides and fresh air, quality time : )))

Yeah no biking here in Austria, Tirol region. As you wrote, it's fine only if you have to bike to work or for shopping. Mountain biking, downhill or road cycling for fitness purpose are all out of question. If an accident happens, you'd take someone else's time or place in the hospital. Big fines are issues for those who are caught biking without a purpose.

Outdoor activity is fine where I live as long as we practice social distancing. I'm able to get out on the bike even more than I used to, because I now work from home. I even found people are a little nicer to each other out on the cycling paths with waves and hellos.

there are for sure more bikes on streets here in NYC but it unfortunately has also a negative -> more traffic incidents involving cyclists

No restrictions on cycling in Florida, but gathering in cycling groups could be a problem. So many people ride bikes, here, some are homeless people, and some are commuters, and we ride all year long. I find that on my runs I might get within six feet of another rider coming the other way. That's because many of us ride on the sidewalks. Pedestrian traffic is rare. If people are sensible, we can get through this.
If I knew how to ride a bike properly, I'd do it every time.
