Huffman Restoration
#1
I just purchased a 1940s model Huffman, the bicycle appears to have paint over the original paint, is there any way to remove this layer of paint to see the original ? or am I dreaming. Any suggestions would be welcome, as I am new to the restoration process.
Thanks !

That is where the real experts on classic restoration hang out and discuss. Good luck.

Thank You, I visited their web site, they state that balloon tire bicycles are not on topic for classicrendezvous whatever that means. it seems that they are more about racing type bicycles.

We do have a few topics in these forums you can look at for ideas. I went ahead and put in a search term for you....

Wow I find that rather rude that there is only a certain type of bike that is open for discussion to restore, don't sound like pros to me lol. A real pro would tackle any kind of bicycle. I am by far not a pro at all.

Congrats on the find! Sounds like a really nice bike to restore. Small suggestion if you take out the crank/bottom bracket assembly sometimes you can find the original color inside the shell or even in the head tube. Not sure of this either but a real fine paper wet sanding process may slowly take off the top paint like 2500 grit?!?!?

EDIT: Ok after I read the site closely they are more towards "1983 and before Racing" bikes.

Hope this helps,
Bill
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

I really appreciate your help Bill, Thank You! Both of your suggestions sound like they will work, I'll try them and let you know. Ive already gotten some bronze wool for attempting to clean the chrome. I wonder if I can find the model number, perhaps the Huffman Co. could help out with original color scheme"s, maybe I"ll try it.

Again Thanks,
Larry

Hi, I saw your post and found the site through a google search trying to see if my site showed up, sadly it hasn't yet. I collect mainly Huffman bikes from the mid 1930's through the mid 1940's. you can either sign up for my site and I can help you there or post a few photos here and I'll see what I can do for you.
you can find my classic bike forum here:

good luck!
