Best Bike Helmet for Adults for Safety and Comfort | Expert Guide to Choose
#1
I researched the best bike helmet for adults over the past few days because I want one that keeps me safe and comfortable while cycling. I read reviews from cycling magazines, consumer reports, and popular gear websites, and they highlight these two as top choices:
ILM Adult Bike Helmet
https://www.amazon.com/ILM-Rechargeable-Mountain-Removable-Commuter/dp/B09BQSZYW4/?th=1
Retrospec Lennon Adult Bike Helmet
https://www.amazon.com/Retrospec-Lennon-Helmet-Adjustable-Removable/dp/B0964HGPTR?th=1
I am having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs. For reference, I usually ride both in the city and on occasional long road trips, so I need something liightweight and comfortable for long rides, good ventilation to avoid overheating, maximum safety with impact protection and adjustable fit for convenience. If you have used any of these helmets or have other recommendations, I would love your expert advice. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello @dhoni4037, both helmets seem fine—similar to "normal" helmets—but with LED lights in the front and rear. My guess is that only the rear light is truly functional, as it makes you more visible. I’m somewhat apprehensive about the front LED on the ILM helmet; I’m not sure how useful it is, especially given its placement.

Many of my friends swear by MIPS technology, which a lot of helmets have. I believe it’s usually indicated by a yellow sticker, similar to Vibram soles on shoes...:-) But those helmets are "crazy" expensive..

I use a "used/free" skiing/snowboarding helmet as my cycling helmet. It’s a hard shell with enough ventilation, and I’ve used it for commuting in Boston as well as for days- or months-long bikepacking trips. It’s built like a tank but doesn’t feel like one.

I’ve added a lot of reflector stickers to make it/myself more visible, and I wear a hiking or running headlamp whenever I have to ride in the dark.

So, go with any helmet you can find a good deal on. But, always ride defensive.

The best and safest Bike Helmet I ever had was a Bell Tourlite, back in the 80s. It had a thin hard shell that may have been Lexan.
