Following today's victory in Vuelta, can we confirm that Sepp Kuss is currently the most promising American road cyclists?

After the 2017 season I'd have bet on Carpenter who was hot that season, but he hasn't delivered yet. McNulty is joining the top level next season @UAE. Joyce, Garrison, Hecht? Blevins hasn't been on the road this season ...

Is that right that vast majority of the new or upcoming American road talents come from cyclo-cross and gravel background? Similar to the recent trend of cycling wonderkids in Europe - MVDP and Wout van Aert.

That's correct, Kuss also has the MTB background. Most of the other notable guys have been racing cyclo cross, but doesn't mean that Americans excel there. In this year's World champs in men's elite distance there was not a single American hitting Top20 or Top10 in the junior/U23 races. Women did better.

US road cycling has various problems in general with lots of events vanishing from the racing calendar and some teams loosing the status. At least there are still two world tour and three pro conti teams, but I was sad to see Holowesko-Citadel dropping back to the continental level.
