Cables for 1978 Raleigh Grand Prix
#1
I am getting a 1978 Raleigh Grand Prix road bike into riding condition. The derailleur cables need replacing. Can I use standard cables found at a local bike shop or do I need to find special "vintage" cables online? This is my first bike repair project, so any help would be appreciated.

Your bike shop can hook you up. Go with stainless cables and lined housing. make sure you use cable end crimps.

Standard shifter cables.
If the shifters are still on the downtube on the frame, you only have one short piece of housing. Better quality housing is nicer, but it won't have a huge impact on this set up. Ask your bike shop if they have a piece or extra lying around or will sell you just a short piece.
