Hello

Can anyone tell me what PE lined brake cable mean? Also how do i tell if the cable is PE lined or not when looking at it? I have had a quick look on google and no luck so far.

Thanks

Probably means lined with a type of plastic. You can see it looking at the ends.

If you pull the cable out of the housing you can see the small plastic tube. That's the lining.
Don't know exactly what kind is PE. Google says Polyethylene. Makes the cable slide better. Do not lubricate unless you're in an area where it rains a lot, then a light coating of grease might help keep water out.

PE = Polyethylene

some oils (note, grease is a soap-oil emulsion) will attach PE.  Use decent stainless steel cables with PE lined housings and no other lubrication.

Cables have had nylon or polyethylene lining for a years. Motorcycle cables use that. It allows for smooth pull. One note many lubricants will swell the lining making things worse. Keep it clean and that's all it needs. As a last resort before changing one can try a Dry Slide graphite lubricant.
