wow Nigel you re a river of info, thanks once more. About the binder thing, do you mean to file it from the inside with a metal rasp or something? So basically I want the two metal parts of the built-in clamp to be a little away from each other if I understood correctly

Yes, seat posts are clamped, as soon as the opposite sides touch, there is practically no increase in clamping force. How you remove the metal is up to you; file, rasp, cutoff wheel, hack saw. Which ever you have and feel most comfortable with using, with the least risk of damaging other areas.

thumbs up! I did it. seat clamp fixed. Last but not least I would like your advice on cassette, maybe some experience about chains (but little significance they have), some idea on a new hanger (the old is a little bent and on top of that rusty so I'm changing it) and shifters. I though to go for some really retro friction metal shifters but I'm always open for new suggestions if you have anything in mind about all these Big Grin Big Grin

If you want to keep the down tube shifters, Sunrace offers some nice ones, in both indexed and friction. Here is an 8 speed example: http://www.amazon.com/SunRace-Speed-Clamp--Shifters-28-6mm/dp/B00DIGOO28/

For cassettes; I like Shimano and SRAM. Stay with 7 or 8 speed.

Easiest to get a RD with an integrated claw hanger; the Shimano TX55 has that option. I have a bag of claws that I purchase from Niagara; something like 10 for $10-. If you were in the USA; I would send one to you.

Chains: for 8 speed an less: KMC X8.93 The KMC opener and closer tools are worth getting.
