Derailer Problems
#1
Hello,
I am VERY new to cycling. I have a 2008 Fuji Newest 3.0 24 spd bike. I accidentally shifted my front gear all the way to the left (smallest sprocket) and my rear gear all the way to the right (also smallest sprocket). I know it is not good for the bike to be rode like this, but I cannot seem to be able to shift out of this situation. PLEASE help!!
Thanks,<br />
Robert

If it won't shift out of that position you'll have to get your hands a bit dirty and physically pull it out and place it back on a better gear combination.

When I physically move the front derailer over the chain does move to the middle front sprocket but then whenever I let go of the derailer it just goes back to the same left small front sprocket.

You need to also move the shifter over to the middle position. Otherwise, it lets the derailleur move back to the inner position and that pushes the chain back. The spring in the derailleur is always trying to move the chain to the smallest cog (on most derailleurs). It is the shifters that hold them up in the larger cogs. If it is the shifter that is giving you trouble, you might want to watch this first: http://bikeride.com/adjust-front-derailer/
