Trek Multitrack 7000 Hybrid HELP
#1
Hello, I recently picked up a Trek Multitrack Hybrid bike in a trade for a guitar. It was not at all what I was looking for, but I became curious when I was given this offer and figured I could get into a new hobbie. Being the newbie that I am, I did not check this bike for anything and didn't even think there could be anything wrong with it. When I got home, took it out of my trunk, assembled the wheels, and started riding, I realized the left grip shifter does not stay in place when I try shifting and the front gear just goes back to the smallest one. In order to use the larger gear, I have to hold the shifter constantly in that position. Both sides are missing the hand grip part next to the shifter, but only the left side wont snap into place. The right side snaps to gears 1-7 just fine. I have been searching on the internet for help with this bike specifically and all I see are used ads for it. Does anyone know what could be causing this? If it's just a simple fix, like screw I need to tighten, or part I need to buy? If so can someone please send a link to where I could buy this part? I feel like this bike is useless until I fix it.

Are the grip shifters universal? Can I just buy any one and put it on there?

do you have a Shimano rear derailluer or a sram?
How many speeds in the rear?
do you like gripshifters ? do not know if you do?
Would you be willing to try something different?

lets some close up pics of your shifters and derailluers

Hello, thanks for the reply. Here are some pics. I don't dislike gripshifters but I've never known an alternative. I would be willing to try something different that wasn't more expensive. Do you have any recommendations?

It has 7 speeds in the rear, 3 in the front. It's a Shimano in the rear. On the grip it says SRAM Max Plus

Nice job with the pics. The cheapest would be to replace with these. and they come with new grips.

You are missing a High limit screw on your front derailluer, this needs replaced.

If you want to spend closer to $50 with new grips and get away from gripshift get these. and you will have new brake levers too

Thanks a lot dude! I'm going with the Shimano's there. Those look nice. Thats funny about the screw because I called the guy who traded me this and he told me it's supposed to be like that. Goes to show you can't trust anyone you meet on craigslist haha.

ya just got to know what you are buying thats all. you will like the st-ef51.
make sure you get the 7spd as they are offered as 8spd too. check out lock-on grips, you can take them on and off if you ever need too.
have fun and good luck
