Loose Workmans Tricycle brake?
#1
Hi,
I bought a Workman's tricycle from someone and when I got it home and tried it out, I found out it had a loose brake. It is a single speed, and I need to fix or tighten the brake lever.
I hope someone can tell me how to tighten the brakes on this trike.

Thank you.

If you actually mean that the brake lever is loose, and rotates around the bar - a Phillips screwdriver and (I think) an 8mm wrench on the clamp bolt should do it.

However, I suspect that you meant that the lever pulls to the bar?
If so - Your 'cable' will be routed, from lever to brake, through a 'housing' (sheathe). Inspect this housing to ensure that it appears properly fitted at the lever and in its 'stop'. The Stop is where the inner cable is exposed again, welded to the fork. Check that the housing is in good condition; no cracks, frays, splits, etc in the plastic casing.
Look okay?

Cool.

More than likely, you just need to 'take up' the 'stretch' in the cable. Down near the hub, you should see an arm protruding from the hub, with the cable being held by a nut & bolt? That's where your brakes begin. Trying to keep everything in the same location and loosening the bolts grip on the cable is no big deal... you just need to pull the slack out.
If you go too far, you'll be riding with the brakes on. May take 3 tries the first time. It took me four.

Let us know!
