Mixing sram components

Hi can anyone tell me if i can mix a sram x10 rear mech with a sram x4 group set? i want to upgrade but want to do it a bit at a time.

Yes, any of the X-# series is all compatible - to the extent that the number of gears that a particular part is designed for. As in, an 8 spd shifter wont work with a 9 spd cassette.

Curious but - where are you seeing X10? They go from X9 to X0.

Thanks for your help. and yes sorry i made a typing error i meant xo, at least that's what i'm sticking to for some reason i thought i had seen x10 on one of the bikes in the shop,must have been mistaken.
thanks for your help,i think i must have misread x10 as you said they stop at x9 then go to xo
