What chain works best with 7 speed HG freewheel and SHaimano SG crankset?
#1
Hi All,

I am looking for a good quality chain that will work well with my Shimano SG (SuperGlide) crankset and the 7 speed HG freewheel. I had a Shimano IG51 but discovered that it was too short for my set-up. I assume that I need a HG chain (because of the freewheel being HG), but will that work on the SG crankset?

I have been looking at the Shimano HG91 and the SRAM PC890 chains. Thoughts or other ideas would be much welcomed.

Thanks,

Doug

You can try one of these http://www.kmcchain.com/index.php?ln=en&fn=find
Good maintenance to your Bike, can make it like the wheels are, true and smooth!

I prefer SRAM chains to Shimano. Any 7 speed compatible chain should work OK. What setup do you have that the IG50 was too short for? I'm not sure that another chain will be any longer. Looks for the link count in the description. Haven't tried KMC or other brands.

The Shimano IG51 chain on my bike right now has 106 links. I was referred to a site by Sheldon (can't remember the last name) that gave a nice video on how to measure the chain for your bike (by having the chain extend from the largest sprocket on the freewheel and largest chainring without going through either derailleur) and found that my chain is short by at least 2, but probably 4, links.
