Another Tool question
#1
How many different kinds of tools are required to remove various styles of bottom brackets?

I currently have two operating bikes (red mid '80's Schwinn World Tourist made by Giant; grey couple year old Raleigh Venture made in China); and three frames with accessories (blue SR Sierra, and two just purchased yesterday for parts).

So far, of the five, is see at least four different kinds of BB tools required:
  1. Red Schwinn - weird, no apparent tool for the inner part - this one has the rare front freewheel. Even after 25+ years, but not much riding, unitl now - it is my favorite - works great.
  2. Grey Raleigh - requires a spline type tool as shown in the "Tool Question" thread. As does one of the frames I just purchased.
  3. Blue SR Sierra needs a pin wrench.
  4. Fourth - one of the frames uses the rectangular tool like the Park TCW-11

If I stay with Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese made bikes; how many more tools will I have to get?

Thank you
Nigel

Ooohhhh about 9,343. Smile just kidding

You already have a better idea than I do. So I have ONLY bought a specific tool when I needed them. When I first noticed the different BB tools I found about as many as you mentioned before I looked CAREFULLY at the bike I was buying it for. Fortunately, I guessed right ordering it from Amazon. don't forget a good old Birmingham screwdriver ( hammer) when used with the appropriate punch or chisel can work wonders.
