Snapping noise from pedal area help !
#1
I noticed snapping noise when pedaling and I grabbed the pedals at 12:00 and 6:00 and there is slop there like the bearing inside the frame is sloppy. This is a Fuji Crosstown hybrid bike. Any help ?

how big a job is this ?? Does it seem like the bearings can be bad with only 1000 miles ?

I take it you have eliminated the pedals?
Yes, BB bearings take the most load on a bike and can fail quickly if not set up properly, if this is still within the warranty period, get it back to your supplier for correction ASAP, although I would complain to them in any case, they may offer a solution.

yea the slop is in the shaft not the arms or pedals. The bike is over 2yrs old so warranty is out. Wonder if it can just be tightened ?

The noise indicates that there may be bearing damage so just adjusting may not work for long. What may have happened is that it got a little loose but you didn't notice it. Riding it loose can damage the bearings pretty quickly.

well I took it in today, first he adjusted the bb and then decided to take it apart, good thing he did the bearing fell out, the cage was chewed up, seals were split.

He replaced it with a cartridge ( 25.00 ) labor (20.00 ) and when adjusting the shift for the front ring the shifter broke.

He chgd me 15.00 for a new shifter and no labor, he said it would have broken as soon as I used it again because it was all cracked inside, maybe yes maybe no.

I didn't argue with him because he did fix it while I waited, 68.00 total with tax OUCH !!!

Did I get hosed

Sounds like money well spent to me. I would be willing to pay that little to have those types of problems fixed.
