Advice on Cannondale rebuild
#1
I know there are some knowledgeable people here who can help me out in identifying this frame. It is from a Cannondale mountain bike which had no printing on it except the Cannondale decal. This is what I know about the specs:

21 speed with Shimano Deore components
Cantilever brakes
1 in. threaded fork with no suspension
135 mm rear drop outs
68 mm BB shell
Stamped on the frame are 2 numbers, B1-0301 and 51607927557

I am wondering if this frame can be converted to a 27 speed with V-brakes?
This would be an exercise bike used on hard surface bike paths.

Will the rear derailleur hanger work?

How to run the rear brake cable, since the old cantilever runs to the center of the wheel?

Is this worth doing?

What problems might I run into if this is possible?

Thanks in advance

The frame is pretty much the same spec/dimensions as new ones, so you can build it up with current components, 27 speed gears, hollowtech bottom bracket etc. if you want to. And V brakes fit cantilever brake bosses, but you must use brake levers specifically for V brakes. Just ignore the existing rear cantilever brake cable hanger, and run the cable outer to the V brake noodle as normal.

Looks like an early 90's Cannondale, M800 perhaps.

Thanks Tino.

I was looking at Tino's link for the serial numbers and they are wacked out for trying to figure out an accurate manufacture date. The BEST I can determine is the frame is 16-inches built in July 1992. Rear drop-out spacing of 135mm.

Thanks for the feedback. This will point me in the right direction. I have done a little repair and maintenance but this will be my first build from a bare frame.

Sorry to hear about your living quarters. Smile Just kidding, actually the Kansas side has made big improvements while the Missouri side keeps politically fighting at the City Admin offices and nothing gets done.

Good luck on the project. Smile
