Cannondale R600 CAAD2
#1
Hi All,

I'm new to building bikes and undertaking a project to build a Cannondale road bike. I have aquired a 1993 Cannondale CAAD2 frame (without forks) and hoping that I can get some advice:
  • What size carbon forks should I go for? 1" or 1 1/8"
  • Can someone suggest a headset?

Thanks
Craig

It will depend on the frame. Around the early nineties was they were changing between 1" and 1 1/8", so you'll have to measure it to be sure.

Here's some info: http://sheldonbrown.com/headsets.html

If your buying new forks, I would buy threadless ones and use an A-headset and stem, there's a lot more choice, whereas with a threaded headset and quill stem there are far fewer to choose from, threaded headsets are easy enough to find, but for nice quill stems, you will likely have to buy used.

Thanks xerxes. As I have found out (after buying the wrong size forks), by frame takes the 1" (which I have now purchased). Looking around, the choice of 1" Threadless Headsets is more limited than the 1 1/8" headsets.

The website you sent is most informative and explains a lot.

Thanks for your help.
