Cleaning STI shifters
#1
My Ultegra and Dura Ace integrated shifters work fine, but both are pretty dirty inside when viewed though the opening that appears when the brakes are squeezed. These being the wonderful/expensive/fragile/finicky gadgets they are, I hesitate to spray anything inside. How are you guys cleaning your Shimano shifters?

As long as they work I'd keep them alone... you could take a look at the explosive views on Shimano's homepage to find out how serviceable they are, though.

A respected mechanic at the LBS suggested that not cleaning the inner workings of my $himano shifters was inviting trouble. I am looking for others' experiences with this.
